Hay Rack Farm - perfect for kids (and parents) after Cheshire Oaks shopping!
Have you ever braved Cheshire Oaks Shopping Village (near Ellesmere Port) with the kids, perhaps to get kitted out for bargain clothes or Clarks shoes from the outlet store and need somewhere to chill where the kids can play?
Well we've found a small farm just a few minutes drive from Cheshire Oaks that is perfect for them to have fun and for you to unwind after shopping!
Hay Rack Café and Farm can be found at Church Farm on the A5117 approximately a mile from Cheshire Oaks so only a few minutes drive back towards the motorway, over the roundabout , take the exit signposted Stanlow, past the posh car dealerships and follow the road until you see the sign on the right (opposite the Stanlow processing plant).
There's a farm shop, a tack shop, a café which does Kelly's ice cream, homemade cakes, sandwiches and hot food, cold/hot drinks. In a corner of the café is an area where children can paint ceramics (charges apply) or for a small entry charge of £1 per adult or child over the age of 2, you can go through the café to the outside area where there is a play area with climbing frames, slides and sit on tractors as well as lots of animals to see!
You can buy food at £1 a bag for a variety of animals including donkeys, goats, chickens, rabbits and ducks. At this time of year there are still some lambs which can be fed (supervised by staff) by the children using bottles of milk.

First Ofsted Early Years report highlights importance of teaching and learning in pre-school settings
See the article published on 3 April 2014 on the National Literacy Trust website, which also has links to the Ofsted report: http://www.literacytrust.org.uk/news/5990_first_ofsted_early_years_report_highlights_importance_of_teaching_and_learning_in_pre-school_settings
Ofsted also published a companion piece on the topic of ‘readiness for school’, which sought to capture how early years providers can ensure disadvantaged children are better prepared to start school. Parents and carers were viewed by the best settings as integral to children’s behavioural, social and emotional development: http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/are-you-ready-good-practice-school-readiness

Nursery supports the Derwen
At the last Nursery Parent Support Meeting Lynne, the Nursery Manager, explained how she had recently written a letter to the Derwen College to show support and raise awareness of what a wonderful place the Derwen Estate is to visit with the nursery children and how much they enjoy exploring the woodland and seeing the animals.
The parents wanted to share this with you as not all of them were aware that the children get the opportunity to have so much fun on their walks, although finding Percy Peacock and seeing the fish in the aquarium in the hospital on their shorter walks are also highlights for them too!
Information on the Derwen Estates
Derwen Estates is a ten-acre site incorporating woodland, marshland and animal care areas.
Derwen Estates supports various habitats and includes a pocket-sized wild flower meadow, small wetland area including a pond, with newts and moorhens, and a marshland area that produces teasels, bull rushes and poppy heads. In the bird hide you can watch the birds on the feeders and in their natural habitat.
There is a selection of small animals including guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs, pygmy goats and alpacas.
The Woodland Walk is open to the public – a 750-metre wheelchair accessible footpath meanders through the woodland which contains 3000 trees.
